Methority is an international company with locations in Uppsala, Sweden, and Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Our team consists of pioneers in the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, going back to the first wave of AI in the 1980's and 1990's. All three founders of Methority either graduated from, or worked at the MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Having strong connections to academia, we share and pair this expertise with young and enthusiastic students on all levels.
We use the term Automated Intelligence to best describe our approach. And that is our mission: to automate repetitive processes that currently require human involvement. To do that, we can build on long-standing experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, classification, statistical methods, and signal and image processing.
We are a dynamic team of veterans and young engineers and analysts. We embrace creativity and hard work in a friendly and collaborative environment. These values directly translate into benefits for our customers: quick turnaround; responsiveness; quality; reliability; robustness; efficiency; and perhaps most importantly: enthusiasm to achieve the set goals.
Jan is a Senior Professor of Bioinformatics at Uppsala University. He brings in over 40 years of experience in Artificial Intelligence, especially Machine Learning. He has a PhD from Linköping University, Sweden, which was followed by a 7-year stint at Harvard University and MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory as Assistant Professor, and at Harvard Medical School as Research Associate. His lab developed one of the most used machine learning systems for rough sets called ROSETTA. More recently he introduced a new concept called co-predictive networks used in rule-based machine learning as well as new paradigms for identification of subgroups from classifiers. He founded a small machine learning company, Cognitor AS in Norway, which among others implemented fault prediction in rotating machinery on oil platforms. Jan has outstanding teaching experience in AI including teaching courses to the USA industry.
Koen, owner of Walmont-Pyrmont B.A., is a seasoned executive, investor and board member. He has master degrees in Physics and Law from the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. He also has an MBA degree from MIT. He has worked in various marketing and general management positions at companies like Apple and Philips with leading edge technologies like speech recognition. As CEO, he turned around Consul risk management that was subsequently sold to IBM. Recently he mainly helping small companies to grow, raise capital and exit them. Clinical Graphics and an aerospace company are examples of this.
Manfred is an experienced AI and ML software engineer, and has been a technical team leader for more than 20 years. He has a PhD in atom physics from the University of Technology in Vienna, and has developed bioinformatics software, including the de facto standard for transcriptome assembly, Trinity, and the unsupervised population analysis program Saguaro, which is based on novel ML algorithms. Manfred was also the technical driving force behind Denapsis Artificial Intelligence AB, a company he co-founded together with Koen Bouwers and others in 2018, which brought in a substantial revenue within its first two years.
The value of Methority comes from its staff of engineers and researchers. With diverse backgrounds such as information technology, computer science, physics, biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and medicine, we are ready to tackle any project, no matter how complex.
Karolina Smolinska-Garbulowska, MSc, is a bioinformatics PhD student with documented experience in explainable machine learning approaches and visualization of learners for complex systems.
Mateusz Garbulowski, MSc, is a bioinformatics PhD student with excellent experience in developing machine learning systems and analysis of the models from Big Data.
Fredrik Barrenäs, PhD, is a senior researcher in bioinformatics, specializing in infectious diseases, immunology and vaccine development. He uses a broad spectrum of big data and machine learning approaches to discover biological pathways associated with vaccine protection and pathogenesis in HIV, zikavirus and ebola models.
Daniel Rivas, MSc, MD, has a PhD in computational biology. He is an expert infectious diseases with 10+ years of experience. He also has expertise in image and signal processing, as well as development of highly efficient computational methods.
Teddy Owen handles business development in the U.S, and has experience leading teams to launch mobile apps, web apps, VR apps and Alexa Skills, allowing him to uniquely understand the complexity of integrating AI and Machine Learning into real-world products. He graduated from Colgate University where he studied Computer Science and Economics, before going to work in M&A investment banking, and later starting a tech company.
Beyond our own expertise, we built up a wide network of partner organizations, allowing us to scale up quickly in demanding situations.
